Production- and work residency
With support from the Sparebank Foundation in Fjaler and Vestland County Municipality, PreForm can now offer artists in residence free access to the stage and sound studio at Samvirket. The facilities are very well suited for theatre, dance, music, and sound productions. In addition to the main stage and studio, we offer amenities such as a kitchen, bathroom, and lounge.
We welcome projects at various stages of development, but to be eligible for a work residency, the project must not be completed. Outside of the residency program, others may also use the facilities by rental agreement.
In the environment around PreForm, there are various resources available that can contribute to the production by agreement—whether related to production work, dramaturgy, sound design, or other artistic consulting. The house technician handles check-in and check-out, but can also contribute to the project by further arrangement.
We greatly appreciate it if you are able to conclude your stay with a work-in-progress showing or an internal presentation, and we are happy to help organize this!

Practical Information:
We have two application deadlines each year. Applications are reviewed by an interdisciplinary working group, and successful projects will receive a response within 4 weeks.
We offer free production facilities in the hall or studio, as well as a needs-based contribution toward accommodation costs.
We can also consider a letter of intent if the project period and financing are not yet confirmed.

Fjaler has extensive experience in hosting artists, both for residencies and productions!
Since 1998, the Nordic Artists’ Centre in Dale has welcomed visual artists, while the Jakob Sande Centre for Storytelling has, since 2017, developed residencies for writers. The annual Theatre Festival in Fjaler has, since 2013, hosted artists for the production and performance of theatre, dance, and music.
We believe that stepping off the beaten path can be both inspiring and liberating. Many who come here say they find their own artistic bubble – with the peace to immerse themselves and fresh impulses for their work.
In other words, Dale is a vibrant village with a diverse cultural environment that offers creative resources and inspiration. PreForm is happy to help facilitate your stay and act as a link between our guests and the local community, so you can get the most out of your time here.
